What is Convocation
Convocation is an annual, high-energy back-to-school kickoff event for all district employees. The pep-rally style gathering features live performances from student groups and serves to unite the staff. It establish the theme for the upcoming academic year, and celebrate achievements like the Teacher of the Year presentations, grant presentations by the Wylie ISD Education Foundation, and an address from Dr. Spicer.
Over the years we have learned that the teachers are moved by the messages and feel encouraged and excited to start a new school year. The highlight of convocation for many teachers are the student performances. The teachers love to see former students performing as part of the event. We will spend time during our preparation talking about where each school is seated in the arena and ask our performers to try to make eye contact with their former teachers as a point of connection.
